The single most important ingredient to become a working actor at the highest level — and staying there — is not talent, training, agents, managers, or lucky breaks.

Those ARE important, but Hollywood is full of well-trained, talented, out-of-work actors who have gotten incredible breaks along the way. The single most important ingredient to becoming a working actor is the ability to address the mental and emotional aspects of having big dreams. It’s one thing to have a dream. It’s quite another to pull it off.

Every hour of every day, planes are landing at LAX from all over the world full of people beginning their dream of becoming an actor in Hollywood. While those planes are landing, just as many are taking off, packed full of people who’ve been crushed by that very same dream. They let their fears, doubts, insecurities, and self-sabotaging patterns hijack their dreams, and eventually they quit the thing they swore they’d never quit.

Fear kills dreams. That’s why most people aren’t pursuing theirs. After over forty years of successfully turning his dreams into reality in the most competitive profession on the planet, Jim has learned a great deal about the mental and emotional aspect of being a successful dreamer. For over twenty years, he has taken students to the Big Island of Hawaii on ten-day retreats to share what he has learned and to help them address, heal, and transcend their fears, doubts, blocks, and insecurities.

Students on the Meisner Technique Studio Actors Intensive Retreat in Hawaii

Jim’s purpose in hosting these retreats is to save students a tremendous amount of heartache, struggle, confusion, chaos, stress, and money by offering the most important, empowering, and transformative ten days of their entire careers. The results and feedback have become the highlights because the attendees of these retreats consistently have the same transformative experience.

And years later, they do count this as one of the most empowering, life-changing experiences of their artist careers.

The key phrase is “intensive retreat.” Here is a schedule of a typical day:

  • 9:00am Leave for the beach
  • 9:45am Teachings at the beach for two hours
  • 11:45am Break for lunch
  • 1:00pm Teachings
  • 2:00pm Relax & Fun – snorkeling, paddle boarding, swimming, hikes, naps, and time alone
  • 4:00pm Leave for the house — showers and regroup
  • 5:30pm Leave for sunset dinner and beach party
  • 8:00pm Return to the house

Students will stay in our beautiful home on the Big Island, in the same town where Jim lived for 4 years, which has been customized to support this retreat.

If spending ten days with Hawaii as your classroom isn’t magical enough, through our Ohana — extended family — we have amazing access to so many remarkable properties, beaches, sacred swimming holes and waterfalls, and most importantly, beautiful friends and family who all share their aloha with our groups.

All of this makes for a truly unforgettable experience.

If you would like to attend, we first need to schedule an interview so I can better understand what you want out of the retreat and whether we can help you.
